CASITA: from developed to developing

I just attended the Kick off meeting of what so called CASITA Project II. The project aims to build capacity on modern disaster mitigation tools, as part of the Asian Urban Disaster Mitigation Program (AUDMP), targeted at reducing disaster vulnerability of urban regions in Asia. It will do so by providing support to the institutionalization of academic courses on disaster mitigation in existing urban planning curricula at university level, thus provide Asia with young urban planners knowledgeable of modern disaster mitigation tools. Through this project the partners shared their knowledge on RS (Remote Sensing) & GIS applications for hazard and risk mapping, and distance education with a group of 15 Universities and training institutes from Asian countries. To support knowledge sharing cost-effectively, an Internet-based platform for E-learning has been developed. Some results of the project have been outcome, such as GIS case studies and course modules dealing with earthquake- , flood - , landslide-, coastal- , volcanic- and technological hazard and risk assessment, and urban vulnerability and risk analysis.

Question: How can they (and I) benefit from this?
