we can just send e-mail, instantly, cheap and time efficient. rather, we look at the process of the news to come: choosing the cards, spend some time writing on the cards, bringing the cards to the post office, buying stamps and get them posted. we let the cards thrown, and the cards are flying.
yeah, we look at the process and the feeling when the cards are there in your mailbox. of course, we shall do emailing, chatting and other instant way of communication but we still love to see a process, and a stamp from the place you are settling in now.

its a letter with two postcards in it, said to be reminding me of having good friend there in your continent.
its good to be remembered, and to have some good words in the card for good friend you said.
